Origin of Indian Ocean multidecadal climate variability: role of the North Atlantic Oscillation

چکیده
Abstract The multidecadal variability of Indian Ocean sea surface temperature (IOSST) has an important impact on both the regional climate and global climate. Here, we explore in annual IOSST. Observational analysis shows that IOSST is not only related to Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), but also North Atlantic (NAO). NAO leads by 15–20 years detrended which PDO signal same period been removed. Further reveals through its leading effect Multidecadal (AMO). AMO affects vertical wind anomaly region Atlantic–Indian teleconnection (AIMT), turn net longwave radiation region, thus driving variability. A Hasselmann model based further verify joint influence PDO-based linear a incorporates are constructed for Results show with can better simulate This again verifies part source, indicating may be due combined influences PDO.

Predictability of North Atlantic Multidecadal Climate Variability
Atmospheric weather systems become unpredictable beyond a few weeks, but climate variations can be predictable over much longer periods because of the coupling of the ocean and atmosphere. With the use of a global coupled ocean-atmosphere model, it is shown that the North Atlantic may have climatic predictability on the order of a decade or longer. These results suggest that variations of the d...

Impact of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation on North Pacific climate variability
[1] In this paper, we found that the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) can contribute to the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO), especially the component of the PDO that is linearly independent of El Niño and the Southern Oscillation (ENSO), i.e. the North Pacific Multidecadal Oscillation (NPMO), and the associated Pacific/North America (PNA) pattern. Using a hybrid version of the GFDL CM2...

[1] The Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) is a near-global scale mode of observed multidecadal climate variability with alternating warm and cool phases over large parts of the Northern Hemisphere. Many prominent examples of regional multidecadal climate variability have been related to the AMO, such as North Eastern Brazilian and African Sahel rainfall, Atlantic hurricanes and North Amer...
